Another film, another soundtrack. You know the formula: A handful of well-known bankable names, thrown in with some developing (starving) artists, mix it all together, sell a million copies, everybody goes home smiling.
Okay then, from the top. Tori Amos, still in peak form and again demonstrating her amazing inability to disappoint. Other high points include newcomers Mono and new tracks from Duncan Sheik and Pulp.
Also found among the tracks are the first signs of life from former Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, and the erratic ex-Stone Temple Pilot singer Scott Weiland. While these welcome efforts are certainly listenable, they do little to distinguish themselves from the band's they left behind. So much for great expectations.
Unfortunately, horrible tracks from Poe, Reef, and The Verve Pipe waste time and make skipping ahead to the next song a necessity.
And finally a few oldies courtesy of Iggy Pop and the Grateful Dead, thrown in for good measure and the formula is complete. What we need is a solution for the formula.
