As far as I'm concerned H.I.M. is pretty much the musical equivalent of heroin. I own all six of their albums and listen them at least once a week. They're a surprisingly accessible band that pretty much any kind of rock fan could easily sink their teeth into - yet they're still nothing more than a cult interest here in the states. However in their native Finland and all over Scandinavia they never fail to fill stadiums with worshiping masses.
H.I.M.'s latest album Dark Light takes the bands seductively rich brand of addictive goth rock to new heights - standing on the shoulders of past monuments such as Razorblade Romance and their last studio album Love Metal - these Dutch Masters have perfected this craft and turned it into pure alchemy. Singer/songwriter Ville Valo is a natural born Norse rock God whose vocal magic goes straight to your veins like morphine and warms you with the most potent pain killer.
The guitars are huge and pound hooks like hammers with a keyboard background as mercurial as absinthe. Seriously I'm begging you to check this shit out, somewhere between the blood of virgins to a vampire and morning nectar to a hummingbird, H.I.M. is as as deliciously obscene as the best of the Swans or the Cranes - with the steely and beautiful promise of the needle to the needful vein as great as the most mysterious of all bands "The Choir.". Not everybody gets to hear The Choir - but it's nice to know that H.I.M. is as close as you want.
