A few weeks after the death of "Old Blue Eyes" a friend of mine commented that Connick sounds like a young Frank Sinatra. It was then that I realized I'd yet to review this album, though it was released several months ago. I know you might not see the connection here but, rest assured, I do.

Harry Connick Jr. is one of the most purely talented musicians working today. He writes his own songs, composes all the arrangements for every section of his orchestra then conducts. He's even been known to produce a few albums now and then.

The remarkable thing about this process, is that he still manages to make each album sound different. Tie all that in with the fact that he has extraordinary mass appeal and is a pretty good actor, and you have a winner.

In the liner notes of this disc, Harry tells us of an encounter with a flight attendant last year. She asked him to recommend one of his albums best suited for romantic purposes. He soon realized that not one of his albums fit this profile. So he set about devoting an entire album to love, and To See You is the lovely result. To pull an album like this off, Harry went back to the tried and true. He used Charles Goold, one of Connick's idols, on tenor sax. For drums he enlisted 23 year old newcomer Arthur Latin. The final member of the quartet is the great Reginald Veal. Reginald played bass on Wynton Marsalis' last album, which I think everybody should own.

Connick had his head on straight when he turned this one out. To See You is worlds better than his previous release, Star Turtle" If you don't own any of his stuff, start with this one, or We Are In Love. This is just a fantastic disc, whether for romantic purposes or not.
