Possibly the future of Incubus is more exciting than their latest effort. Even so, Incubus' unique style and energy shine through on Morning View. This album is a comparable extension of their previous effort, Make Yourself. Amidst the stripped-down musical and lyrical compositions lie a more matured and poignant rock band. Fortunately, they've managed to break through their rap-rock stereotype and display their true potential.
With Morning View, Incubus consistently weave heavy riffs with melodic balladry--think Chili Peppers' Californication. Of the more favorable tracks, "Blood On The Ground," the eastern sound of "Aqueous Transmission," and the single, "Wish You Were Here" are stand outs. But it's "Under My Umbrella" that proves to be--dare I say--the album's best track. Though not extraordinary, this is Incubus' best work and definitely augers well for an even more promising future.
