Sometimes comparisons are hard to shake. Just ask Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Every publication has called them an American version of Jesus & Mary Chain. If that's the case, let the onslaught begin on new group Interpol. Hailing from New York City, you'd never know it by listening to their sound. Interpol sound eerily like the long since defunct British group Joy Division. Lead singer Paul Banks sounds like he could be Ian Curtis's long lost son or perhaps a blood brother of Psychedelic Furs singer Richard Butler. And when he wails "Turn on the Bright Lights" in the song 'NYC," it is very reminiscent of Joy Division's big hit "Love Will Tear Us Apart." Bouncy new wave guitars flesh out great tracks such as "Obstacle" and "Say Hello to the Angels" and make no apologies for doing so. Interpol show that they are yet another great new band to look out for in the future.
