Metal stalwarts Isis having been blazing the path that heavily influence Neurosis set before them and over the last decade have become one of the most influential Post-Metal bands of the new millenium. Their new album Wavering Radiant picks up right where 2006's In the Absence of Truth left off with the band aiming to mix more melody and keyboards along with their screaming vocals and intricate and grinding Metal riffs.

At seven tracks in length and with track four seemingly being a two minute mellow intermission, it's easy to break down Wavering Radiant down into two halves. The first half starts out with the very melodic and almost Tool-like at times "Hall of the Dead" (no surprise considering Tool's Adam Jones lends his talents throughout here) then moves into what I believe to be one of the worst tracks that Isis have ever crafted, the all over the place and poorly paced "Ghost Key" that can't decide if it wants to be a tribute to The Cure or a sludgy Metal piece that transitions terribly between the two. The second half of the album though is the saving grace - with the final three tracks being some of the best music Isis has put together since their 2002 masterpiece Oceanic. Wavering Radiant isn't essential Metal by any means, but if you've already picked up the new Kylesa and Mastodon then this might be a nice quick fix to slake that Metal jones you might be suffering.
