The Oslo, Norway-based JR Ewing is yet another great Scandanavian band who, much like their Swedish neighbors, Refused, unleashes explosive, thrashing guitars with relentless screaming and intense singing for some disturbing (in a good way) powerhouse rock in the fashion of At the Drive-In and of course, Refused themselves. With a listen to the first track, "Change is Nothing (Everything is)," it was clear this was another one of those bands to listen to when you're pissed off. Some other highlights to get one's blood up were the assaults "Nihilstic Elitist" and "Take a Hint" and the complex, beat-changing "Fucking and Champagne." The assaults got more vicious and weird near the end with the loud-to-quiet workout "Insect Intercourse," the blisteringly speedy "I'm Sorry, You're Sorry, We're all Sorry" and the five-minute Blitzkrieg "Floodlight." This is definitely for fans of the intensity and complexity of hard-and-heavy bands like Refused, At-the-Drive-In and Mars Volta.
