In 1994 Jimmy Page and Robert Plant decided to embrace the inevitable, and boy did they ever. With a group of extremely talented musicians and some outstanding re-arrangements on some classic Led Zeppelin tunes they once again took the world by storm, not having lost a step. Four years later with Walking Into Clarksdale the fearsome duo have proven that they are indeed capable of that same greatness, even if it isn't Zep.

Robert Plant is at his usual best weaving a sort of lyrical daydream in and out of each track. He doesn't have the complete vocal range that he used to command and every once in a while you hear his voice strain to reach some of those higher notes. But rest assured, his voice is still very solid. Jimmy Page provides us with some juggernaut riffs and great hooks, though he doesn't have as many mind-blowing solos as we all would like. Charlie Jones and Michael Lee return from Page & Plant's last album to back them on bass and drums, respectively. They also do an incredible job.

Also returning from their last album is the eastern flavored sound that has been an enormous influence throughout their career.
This, along with producer extraordinaire Steve Albini, provides us with a fantastic sounding album. However, be warned, do not buy this album if you want Led Zeppelin! I have already talked to a few Zep fans who were fairly disappointed with it. But take comfort in the fact that this is as close as you will get to the old sound--and yes, it is good.
