After four years (two and a half in Europe) the Danish duo are back with
their trademark neon-bubblegum-funk sound, this time sporting guest singers
from Le Tigre and the B-52's. Clocking in at a concise forty minutes the pair
has no problems keeping the dance music flowing while beefing up the
background sounds from the four piece band sound of their debut.
"Take My Time" utilizes the B-52 songstresses Cindy Wilson and Kate
Pearson to a cheerful effect while "Itch U Can't Scratch" sounds like a
B-52 sendup layered with the funkiest 1980's bass sounds since Roger and
Zapp were on the charts. "Can I Get Get Get" is something of an update of the 2003 hit "Move Your Feet" even as it goes farther in terms of
production - and the rest is almost as infectious. Look out for a chipmunkish
sendup of the Jackson Five.
The American market is often too quick to dismiss the more tongue in cheek camp sensibilities found in some of the alternative euro bands. Well
even the American band Scissor Sisters has trouble getting respect back
here. But remember all the short lived musical trends here and their uncanny
ability to quickly become parody fodder. So why not try this album on for
size, one of the funnest spins of the year.
