It's not often in hip-hop when a group can blur the lines of entertainment and art. Jurassic 5 has done it superbly. With lyrics politically in tune with today's events, and music so fresh and lively, J5 has created an album ideal for any listener. The group's resident DJs Nu-Mark and Cut Chemist blend jazz, soul, funk and break-beats perfectly to compliment the socially conscious, yet fun lyrics offered by the MC's of the group, Marc 7even, Chali 2na, Zaakir, and Akil.
Highlights include the opening track "Freedom," which questions the integrity of temporary patriotism, and "Hey," which is just a breezy, head bobbin', driving-with-no-where-to-go kind of song. The album is definitely worth a listen by all fans of thoughtful, creative and genuine music.
