"Where the Wild Things Are Soundtrack" by Karen O and The Kids
They don't seem quite as wild as they did when I was a kid.

With all the trailers for the new movie Where the Wild Things Are (based on the enormously popular children's book by Maurice Sendak) featuring Arcade Fire's "Wake Up," you would have thought the group would have had something to do with the soundtrack, but that isn't the case. The soundtrack for the entire film was actually put together by Karen O of the popular Rock group Yeah Yeah Yeah's. Joined by her makeshift group The Kids, which is actually an all star lineup of Indie-Rockers such as Bradford Cox (Deerhunter) Dean Fertita and Jack Lawrence (both recently of The Dead Weather) Greg Kurstin (The Bird and the Bee) and her Yeah Yeah Yeah's band mates Nick Zinner and Brian Chase along with an untrained childrens choir. Together, this rag tag team have put together an album of half instrumentals and half songs that children and parents alike will surely be able to enjoy.

As an album, the listening enjoyment of the Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack is choppy at times, especially when the movie itself hasn't even been released yet so the songs can be put into perspective. But what I can tell you is that the instrumentals have a childlike innocence to them with all the oohs and ahhs that Karen O conjures up to go along with them and the actual "song" songs such as "All is Love" with the children singing along and "Heads Up" with its interactive hand claps, make for a fun time that's easy to imagine fitting well with the movie. Karen O and The Kids have captured the imagination, now let's hope the movie is good enough to capture our hearts when it's released nationwide October 16th. I have a feeling it will.
