The second installment of Kill Bill music is a passionate journey of ass-kicking revenge and spaghetti western drama, courtesy of tunes by such country artists as Johnny Cash and Charlie Feathers, British Producer Malcom McLaren, Mexican artists Lole Y Manuel and Chingon and most of all, the spaghetti western sounds of Luis Bacalov and the legendary Ennio Morricone.
Morricone, whose music influenced the sound of Kill Bill Vol.1, is given the full spotlight on Vol.2 with three tracks originally recorded for westerns back in the mid to late 1960s. The slow building sounds of these numbers work magic in terms of atmosphere as well as creating tension and will hopefully inspire the listener to track down Morricone's great film scores like A Fistful of Dollars, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Once Upon A Time in the West, A Fistful of Dynamite, The Untouchables, and so forth.
The overall sound of this soundtrack is a little more consistent throughout compared to Vol.1 with fewer contrasts in music styles. On one funny note, when I listened to track one on this CD, I imagined the music being the theme for one of those cheesy Mexican soap operas you catch a glimpse of while scanning past a Spanish language channel like Univision. Besides that, this music is one hell of a ride.
