Kinky are a Latin band that have been getting quite a bit of buzz in the last year and a half for their interesting blend of Chemical Brothers sounding beats, with an almost Tejano style of music. Their 2002 self titled debut garnered much attention that was well deserved. Atlas however should bring a grinding halt to the masses of fans that called this band a true original. Instead of trying to build on the foundations of this new sound, Kinky have decided to cash in their chips and try to take an immediate route to the quick buck by trying to appeal to the American market by singing most of their lyrics in English. This is an extremely bad move when you consider that their lyrics are laughably bad when translated. Also the new beats feel like they've been recycled from hundreds upon thousands of club songs already cranked out by mediocre dance producers and DJ's. Not even a guest vocal from Cake's John McCrea on "The Headphonist" can help these guys out, simply because it doesn't sound like a Kinky song, It sounds just like any other Cake song! If Kinky have any hope of being a great Latino band like Cafe Tacuba, or Los Amigos Invisibles have proven to be, then they need to go back to the drawing board. Because with Atlas, Kinky sounds completely lost.

I'm from México and I think that Kinky do their music from them heart, so, from some people that couldn't like, but in fact, exist one big diference between their first and second disc; the first is more "electronic" the second is "rock" but they try to do their best, and they have their own sound, they sound like Kinky, and for Cafe Tacvba, they needed 15 years to became what they are, Kinky just have five years, I think that they are in the correct way to became the biggest mexican band.
