Klaxons are a new London-based three-piece rock group, whom in their press info, like to fancy their style of music as "New-Rave," whatever that means. I think they originally set out to be the next Happy Mondays or Stone Roses, but if that's what they were going for on their debut Myths of the Near Future then they've failed miserably. Not to say Myths is terrible, it's actually quite an instantly ear-pleasing debut. But this self-proclamation of calling themselves a Dance-Rock band is pure rubbish that seems like nothing more than blatant self-hype to make the fanatical British music press blow their collective load.

After listening to first single "Golden Skans," my knee-jerk reaction is to compare them to another but far superior British three-piece: Supergrass. But future listens have shown that these British newbies do have some range. The pulsating bass rhythms of tracks such as "As Above, So Below" and "Frailty's Rainbow" are reminiscent of groups such as The Beta Band with a little bit of Kasabian thrown in for good measure. Atmospheric work such as album opener "Two Receivers" even brings someone like Doves to mind. Myths of the Near Future certainly won't be the best debut album to come along this year, but Klaxons do undoubtedly show promise. New-Rave? Hardly. But if you fancy a new Brit-Rock band to pine over, trust me, you could do a lot worse than these bloaks.
