I'm of the opinion that rock music is seriously lacking great female singers. Of course there's PJ Harvey and other notable exceptions-- but at the moment, we're hanging up the "help wanted" sign on the Rock door.

A lesser known addition to this short list is the Italian siren Cristina Scabbia--front woman for the terrific Lacuna Coil. This woman is high on my list of the best singers in rock history. As bold as this statement may seem, one listen to Comalies will put the issue to bed. Lacuna Coil is one of Metal's best kept secrets.

Scabbia sings with the power and range of a broadway singer, and musically the Coil is so unique and diverse that they literally defy comparison. Yet as singular as their sound is, it's surprisingly accessible. Take a chance on this one, your collection will be the better for it.
