What do you call a white female British rapper who stands barely 5 feet, sings with everything from a grumble to a whine and dresses like Chuck D circa 1991. Evidently she describes herself as the "Biggest Midget In The Game" and with some classic-styled beats and a little help from New York hip hop mogul Jay-Z she finds a niche in a music landscape dominated by stylized and sexed up songstresses.

Sovereign's style is almost an anti-style, blending British urban wisdom with some playful hard-knock-life styled pop and a bit of self deprecating humor. It's a small step from last years entertaining ep, Vertically Challenged and it could possibly appeal to a pretty broad audience. Either way it's nice to have a flavor like this on the increasingly mundane American hip hop scene.
