"The Joy of My World Is In Zion," no not a lyric from a local hymn book, but the title of a song dedicated to her new baby boy, "Zion." The song recounts the strong pressure Lauryn (23) encountered from "the money people" to abort her pregnancy for the sake of her career. Not only did Lauryn deliver a baby boy, but this Fugee went "hugee" in '98 and delivered a full-grown solo album that's also a bouncing bundle of joy. Miseducation is a mixed bag of old-school Motown grooves (akin to Roberta Flack, whose "Killing Me Softly" she covered as a Fugee) and rhyme-time rappers that all seem to fit comfortably together. The fact that she toned-down the rapping in favor of songs that she actually sings on accounts for it's Emmy nomination and also makes it very accessible to those for whom rap isn't their cup of Ice T.

This album is really great. Every day this album gets better to me. Thank you Lauren Hill - put Zion down for a few days and record another album . . . please.
