Few performers in the music industry have reinvented themselves as many times as Madonna. Through her almost twenty year career she's taken many chances. Some have payed off and some haven't, but one thing is for sure--she is one hell of a business woman. She knows how to push the envelope. Motherhood has mellowed the material girl a bit as was evident on her last release, the brilliant Ray of Light.

I must confess that I wasn't impressed by her new single "Music," so I popped her latest album in with a bit of trepidation. To my surprise, I think this is one of Madonna's strongest albums ever and nearly as good as Ray of Light. It's amazing how much stronger Madonna's voice has become with each record. I attribute a lot of this to her vocal training during the filming of Evita. What ever the case may be, Music is a winner.

Part electronica, part disco, and part folk (a la Sheryl Crow), Music pulsates with rhythm. The best tracks on the album were produced by William Orbit, most notably the catchy "Don't Tell Me." I also love "Gone" in which Madonna sings about not selling out.

Although Music is not as lush as Ray of Light, it's ever bit as insightful and innovative. And even though I don't like the title track, the rest of this album is just about as good as it gets. Love her or hate her, one thing's for sure. Madonna ain't no sell out and the glorious Music proves it.
