Megadeth has spent 2 decades as the only band who could match Metallica for speed and intensity. For those of you who don't already know this, Singer Dave Mustaine started out his career as the original lead axe master for Metallica. With the exception of 1998's huge let down, Risk, Megadeth have always crafted earth-shattering metal classic's.
Although it lacks the awesome power of 1993's masterpiece Countdown to Extinction, The World Needs a Hero does not fail to send your head into violent motion.
On the songs "Dread" and "The Fugitive Mind" one can't help but be reminded of Countdown's "Sweating Bullets." And on the track "Return to Hanger" Megadeth revisits Rust in Peace's "Hanger 18," proving the nay sayers wrong who have speculated that Megadeth could no longer play at warp speed. There's even a new theme at play on this record, a nerve Megadeth has never touched, "post break-up resentment." It sounds cliche, but not to worry, Megadeth lays it out fresh and raw. So crank up your stereo and prepare to terrify the elderly, Megadeth is back with a new axe to grind.
