Four years ago Mercury Rev quietly released the magnificent Deserters Songs, an album that has since led the way for subsequent efforts by The Flaming Lips, Grandaddy and Sigur Ros to name a few. All Is Dream is in the same sleepy vein, Deserters Part Two really. The guitar and rhythm arrangements are aroused to some extent, but not much. Lyrically, Jonathan Donahue's almost childish approach to the same old story, you know--boy meets girl, boy is moody bastard, girl leaves. The delivery suits the music handsomely. An easy recommendation really. Buy two copies.
