The title says it all. This album is a masterful collection of raw garage sounding rock, just like the old days of Metallica. The first of the double disc set is all cover songs. The boys flawlessly rip through "Die Die My Darling," a roaring punk tune by the Misfits. They then proceed on to a majestic remake of a Bob Seger song. As surprised as I was to hear Metallica covering a Seger tune, I was even more surprised by how well they recreated it.
The second disc is what the album is really about. For those of you who haven't been able to get your mitts on the elusive and highly sought after Garage Days Revisited EP, or the rare Kill 'em All tracks found only on the albums first pressing--here is your chance. And at a price that won't put a dent in you're holiday budget.
This is the first Metallica record for several years that doesn't shove over produced, Paradise Lost, alternative epic rock down your throat. This album seriously tears it up in the same thrashing fashion as Ride The Lightning, Kill em All and Master of Puppets.
The guitars veer from the foreground to the background, in a barrage of blistering thrash metal-- the kind of in-your-face sonic assault that we fell in love with from from the start. Metallica has packed this disc with 15 unwaveringly maniacal songs that proves undeniably that the band has committed themselves to pleasing all of their fans. Thanks fellas!
