The Spirit Room makes a statement. Not a statement that will win it the respect and admiration of millions, but it's definitely worth a listen. The album's major fault is that it flowed so well it became a droning forty-five minute song. Each song follows the same formula, it goes as follows: begin recording, cue acoustic guitar, cue vocals, cue drum and bass, sing louder/play faster, cue electric guitar solo, slow down, say meaningful line at end of song with no accompaniment, cut it, ship it, sell it. Her lyrics are too cute and remind me of sappy love letters I received in Junior High. Heavy on sugar and absent of any real emotion.
