A few years ago, a little unknown British band made one of my favorite albums of the year. That band was Minibar, and the album was Road Movies. Not even having famous producer T Bone Burnett on board producing their debut, or being featured on the Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back soundtrack could get them noticed, so Road Movies ended up being a huge flop, and Universal dropped them. Now, two years later, Minibar are back with their new album Fly Below the Radar and it's every bit as good as their debut. Simon Petty's vocals, and Minibar's music in particular has a very similar quality to that of Jakob Dylan and the Wallflowers, but I think that Minibar are a much tighter bunch than those American blokes. Minibar's three part harmonies and instantly infectious harmonies are the first thing that perk up the ears and demand that you to take notice. With track titles like "New Mexico," "Badlands," and "Snake Buckle Belt," you know you're in for a roots rockin' good time. It also doesn't hurt when these guys also do a kick-ass cover version of the Smiths "Ask Me" as well. If you consider yourself a fan of the Wallflowers brand of music and you're looking for something new, then look no further than this fantastic group.
