If Fugazi wanted a groovier sound this is pretty much what they'd sound like. Finally, after what seemed an eternity, Moving Units has released their highly anticipated full length album, Dangerous Dreams. Lying somewhere between The Mullens & And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, this is a band that is so underground that they're nearly incredibly famous.
What is it about this band that makes them so fucking cool and magic - it's hard to nail it down. Could it be the fine and lyrical songcrafting? Maybe it's the brilliant instrument arrangement and breakdowns. Whatever it is, Moving Units has something going for them that totally separates them from the familiar crowd resurrecting the new wave era. In fact they almost bring to mind Art-Rock - with a Sonic Youth kind of slanted enchantment.
Dangerous Dreams includes a new and improved version of "Between Us and Them" that is a little bit faster but basically the same as it was on last year's appetite whetting EP. So if you do the math correctly - Dangerous Dreams, with its twelve songs, is like listening to the Bruce Springsteen box set five times in a row - now
that's impressive.
Getting down to the epic songs on this album, it's hard to choose. Since all are instantly legendary in my mind, and may very well possess healing properties. In the end, for me, it boils down to the radio-friendly "Going For Adds," or the echoing synthesizer effects and trippy vocals on "Anyone." Much like the entire album, it's a tight one!
