Joy Division were one of the best bands that ever was, or will be. In their brief existence they released two perfect albums in as many years and never recorded one lackluster track. When singer/songwriter Ian Curtis died the remaining three members elected to press on, (albeit with additional keyboards and different musical direction) as New Order. Alongside Depeche Mode and the Pet Shop Boys they typified what is now referred to as "synth pop," most of which can be discarded. After eight years of various solo projects with diminishing returns, Get Ready instantly distinguishes itself from the traditional dance stomps of nineteen eighty-whatever. With a minimal reliance on electronics the album attempts to resurrect the ghost of Curtis, although with Bernard Sumner's oft times ridiculous lyrics they could never hope to. Not a brilliant record, but definitely a step in the right direction.
