Nine Inch Nails fans often seem to be divided into two camps - those who firmly believe that Downward Spiral is Trent Reznor's ultimate masterpiece, and those of us who consider Pretty Hate Machine deserves the crown. Just for the record, it's been my experience that most who worship "Spiral" seem to only know one song off the whole album - shame on you if I have to point out which.
As far as I'm concerned everything after Broken has sounded less like a true industrial band and more like self-indulgent computer tinkering. There certainly is a lot of room for comparison between With Teeth and both Pretty Hate Machine and Broken. There are a lot of songs that remind me of "Wish" from Broken.
On the positive side of the ledger, NIN certainly sound like a band again - which was all part Reznor's intention for Teeth. "All the Love in the World," is very reminiscent of PHM's "Something I Can Never Have." Other killer tracks include "With Teeth," "Getting Smaller," and "You Know What You Are."
Would I say that With Teeth is as good as NIN's first two records, fuck NO. Still it's a fantastic record and can be proudly included into your collection.
