What a year it's been for Oasis. In addition to losing and replacing two members of the band, starting and abruptly ending a European tour, and countless other tabloid exploits, Oasis has somehow managed to crank out two impressive albums. Familiar to Millions, the latter of the two, is Oasis' first live recording and soundly captures the sonic achievements of the band on their home turf.
This double-disc live show, taped at the massive Wembley Stadium in London, is probably the best example of how good their concerts can be. After listening to this album, I wish I had seen this show instead of the one I saw here in America (they don't like playing here in the States, and it showed). Familiar To Millions finds the Blokes performing at their height and commanding involvement from the crowd. Each member is at his top form on this album--every solo, vocal, and note sounds fantastic. Noel and Liam, as is their custom, switch off lead vocal duties from song-to-song, and sound equally impressive.
If you're not one of the millions familiar with the band, skip this one and pick up their last album--Standing On The Shoulders of Giants--it will make an Oasis fan out of you.
