Last year a band called Palo Alto released a debut that was full of fantastic tunes, it was a solid record from top to bottom, but there was just this one little problem--it sounded exactly like Radiohead. Exactly. I finally decided to give in and love it, but many people I know just couldn't get around the fact that it was such a total knock-off.

This year I'm faced with pretty much the exact same dilemma, with the debut of a New York outfit called OURS. To the point where I'm sure some critics will quip that the band would have been more suitably named THEIRS. At least OURS can be considered an exact replica of not only Radiohead, but U2 and Jeff Buckley as well. Just as Palo Alto, OURS makes up for their complete absence of originality by offering up a dozen really terrific sounding songs. If you can divorce your prejudice against overly-derivative music Distorted Lullabies can make you very happy. With it's hypnotic compositions that pay-off with majestic and lovely choruses, Jimmy Gnecco uses his considerable vocal prowess to weave one seductive melodic hook right to the next. I say let yourself go and just enjoy--we won't be hearing from Jeff Buckley again any time soon.
