Once again, Sub City Records has put out another great low priced compilation with bands you won't hear just anywhere. Plus, Plea for Peace- Take Action goes out to benefit the National Hopeline Network, which is a hotline service dealing with youth crisis issues. However, this is not your average cheapie compilation with punk bands that all sound the same. Plea for Peace contains many different styled bands from the indie-rock genre with occasional punk thrown in, and 18 of the 28 tracks are unreleased, rare or live.

Around the beginning of the CD, Thrice's "To What End" and AFI's "Who Knew" show off both bands' old, in-your-face punk sound from before they hit it big on a major label, while Atom and his Package's "Wonderman (Hammer Smashed Ball)" and Zero Zero's "Hello, How Are You" both show that keyboards and synthesized drumming can sound cool again. Fat Wreck Chord favorites Swingin' Utters' pitch in the Irish-drinking jig "Heroes of the Corner Bar," while super-old punk veterans TSOL show they've still got their stuff with "Sold."

Female-fronted punk rock also shows off its attitude with The Eyeliners' "See You Tonight," Bratmobile's snotty "Gimme Brains" and Selby Tigers' rockin' "Snowball." Near the end of the disc is sheer originality with International Noise Conspiracy's creative "Abolish Work" and Seam's heartfelt live version of "Inching Towards Juarez." However, the best track on the entire CD is At the Drive In's unreleased "Catacomb." This song reminded me of how great they were before they broke up, and I can say it's easily one of the best ATDI songs I've heard. Also included on the CD is a remixed version of Cave In's "Jupiter," and a live version of Thursday's emo classic "Autobiography of a Nation." If you're a fan of cheap $5.99 compilations with songs you won't get sick of after the first listen, then Plea for Peace-Take Action is the CD for you
