Fresh off their good fortune of landing the theme song to the hit television show Grey's Anatomy (a show I just can't get into, but my wife worships the ground that Dr. McDreamy walks on), Galia Durant and Carim Clasmann have finally made their sophomore release (yes, they do have a first album) in the form of The Only Thing I Ever Wanted. First and foremost, the big shocker here is that "Cosy In The Rocket" (said theme song to said massively over-hyped T.V. show) is nowhere to be found. Those of you who were hoping to pick that song up here, can go and get that television soundtrack you were hoping you wouldn't have to buy. For the rest of you who're still interested in what new material Psapp have to offer, well, it's a mixed bag.
Carim Clasmann is without a doubt the main reason to listen to this group. His Glitch-Pop style productions are highly infectious and with every track that goes by, it's a pleasure to listen to what he's gonna come up with next. Check out album opener "Hi" and you'll see exactly what I mean. Galia Durant's voice however bores me to tears. I really can't point to a single track on this record that would justify investing your time in her. She sounds somewhat like Dido or Laetitia Sadler from Stereolab, but only if Sadler or Dido were drunk and put forth no effort to sound half-way engaging. But if Glitch-Pop groups like Lali Puna or Ms. John Soda are up your alley, Psapp may just be worth a listen, I just can't promise it'll be worth two.
