To call Rob Crow prolific would be a tad of an understatement. Rolling through projects quicker than a box of Kleenex, Crow has been involved with Indie-Rock bands such as Heavy Vegetable, Thingy, Optiganally Yours and Physics and has even been apart of noisier projects such as The Ladies with Zach Hill from Hella and his faux Metal tribute band Goblin Cock in which he plays the part of his own made up character named Lord Phallus. Even with all that, the band that Crow is seminally known for first and foremost is Pinback.

Crow's new solo album Living Well (his fourth under his own name, does the guy ever sleep?) harks back to his Pinback sound and anyone who found The Ladies or Goblin Cock a bit much on the tedious side will be pleased at Crow's return to form. Melodically guitar driven, Living Well is briskly paced and most tracks barely clock in past the three-minute mark. Those who are familiar with Crow's early work however won't find that as much of a shock, though Pinback fans might find these songs abbreviated and abrupt. First single "I Hate You Rob Crow" reminds me of mellower Nirvana, but it's the track "Over Your Heart" that I keep coming back to with its excellent drumming and Built To Spill style sound. While Living Well doesn't live up to best albums in Heavy Vegetable, Thingy or Pinback's back catalogs, it's probably the most satisfying solo effort that Crow's had time to offer.
