Although these guys may be on Equal Vision Records, they're definitely not what one would expect coming from that label. It's also definitely not what one would expect from the former lead singer of Killswitch Engage, Jesse Leach. I was pretty well fooled upon hearing the screams on the first track "In my Blood," only to find it eventually turned into something sounding like early Soundgarden. Being a Soundgarden fan, the song wasn't that bad and Leach's Chris Cornell-like vocals really sealed the Soundgarden package. After hearing the next few tracks, it was evident these guys are trying to bring back that classic half-grunge half-metal sound made popular by bands like Soundgarden and Helmet in the 90s. Unfortunately, those next few tracks, "Cast No Shadow," "Eyes of a Child" and the ballad "The Deep Below" turned out to be the only songs on here that managed to hold my attention, and just barely at that. Most of the rest of the album sounded like stuff you'd hear on CDs of generic and forgotten alternative/grunge-era bands from the 90s now found in a used "dollar CD" bin. Although the first half of the album was somewhat promising, I had hoped Seemlees would have tried harder to conjure up more memorable hooks and melodies to add to their brash level of hard rock.
