There's certainly no questioning this woman's talent. She's given us three top-notch albums during the nineties and true to form the academy has chosen to nominate her weakest. Nevertheless it's a good record that, like all of her works, grows on you slowly rather than knocking you out after the first spin. Other than the albums first single "My Favorite Mistake," the album is somewhat of a departure for Sheryl, with many of the tracks offering melancholy instrumental sequences, rather than a batch of songs capable of yielding two or three other radio-friendly pop hits. Sheryl's strength is her smoldering tough-but-vulnerable beauty, that you don't need to see to experience. The thing that's so captivating about her is that she taps into that same everyman blue-collar kind of appeal that gives Bruce Springsteen such a broad audience. I doubt this will be her year though, I think Sheryl's finest work is still ahead of her and at best, The Globe Sessions is a long-shot.
