Scottish Indie-Rock four-piece Sons and Daughters, whose drummer David Gow and lead vocalist Adele Bethel were once minor members of the now defunct and sorely overlooked Arab Strap, are back with their third release This Gift; a blistering up-tempo rocker of an album that grabs hold and never once lets go from track one through twelve.

Bethel, whose vocal work is a Scottish version of Jenny Lewis, is a firecracker just waiting to be discovered by a mainstream audience. Opening track and first single "Gilt Complex" should finally be the song that breaks Bethel and the boys into frontline recognition. Lead guitarist Scott Paterson is also a revelation on This Gift as well. His work throughout is a joy, especially on second single "Darling" which feels like an homage to The Rolling Stones' "Mother's Little Helper." Paterson's Mark E. Smith-type vocals are also a compliment to Bethel's, especially when they trade oooo's and aws back and forth on the scintillating self-titled track. This Gift overall turns out to be just that; a belated Christmas present of sorts that will constantly reward listeners whenever they return to it throughout the year.
