Well they are British. They get an automatic three just for that--right? I guess I'm kidding, but it does seem that even the most mediocre Brit-bands are far more talented than most good bands on this side of the pond.
Granted they're all starting to sound a bit generic--offering up garden variety guitar-driven anthems, filled with overwrought tales of tortured youth--with the singer straining his voice in every attempt to sound like Oasis.
Anyway, after the first listen I wasn't that impressed. It did, however, begin to grow on me. It does become infectious, and it's definitely meant to be played at higher decibel levels. The single "Sugar Cane" is horrible and is not representative of the rest of the album.
The album as a whole is saved from mediocrity by a well selected slew of samples--it's worth a listen but there are no real breakthroughs here. While you're browsing through the "S" section, pick up Supergrass instead.
