Here is a little background info on the Gainesville tour de force band of hessians known as Strikeforce Diablo. They released an EP around '98 along with a ton of random splits with other G-ville bands like I Hate Myself and Twelve Hour Turn. After that the band fizzled out and the members of Diablo formed other bands. Drew was in the ultimate emotronica band Argentina as well as the heavy super conductors Asshole Parade. Kevin was actually the original drummer for The Blacktop Cadence, and was in some hip-hop dork band by the name of White Dove Frisbee Team. The last element of Diablo is Matt who was also in Asshole Parade and True North.
This is only scratching the surface of bands these dudes were in but you get the basic asshole point.

Happily all three original members have reuinted for The Albatross, which is pretty cool, and George Rebelo, the drummer from Hot Water Music even plays some percussion stuff. Unhappily the Albatross lives up to it's title and is a real let-down. I had hoped that it would sound like their old EP only twice as long. But I guess people grow up and start being pussies. I hate to say it but it sounds like this band is going the way of every other band out there that used to bring it hard, but have cleaned it up for kiddies (i.e. the latter Small Brown Bike albums). The sound isn't necessarily awful, but certainly not what I'd hoped for. If you're thinking this is like old school Diablo, forget about it. In fact The Albatross is the antithesis of the old EP. Sorry to drag you down.

Strikeforce Diablo sounds more like a playstation game than a band, but it just so happens I'm from the Gainesville area and so I'm up on the scene you breifly described. I too was a fan of their EP and being a diehard follower of Hot Water Music as well, I'm going to have to pick this album up and decide for myself if these guys have turned into pussies!
