Anyone who is familiar with the Aquabats will probably find their new CD The Aquabats Vs. The Floating Eye Of Death a little odd. This new outing of theirs is strangely different from their other two efforts. The lyrics still carry the same crazed comical stylings, but what is left out of the album is their usual Ska upbeats. It's sad to say to a lot of the Aquacadets out there, but this record just isn't ska. In fact only a few of the songs carry prominent horn lines, the rest of the songs have horns scattered about. But don't cry the album is Ska-influenced and crazier than their last two albums. Hopefully after the first play we won't see upset fans throwing their CD's out the window and crushing them under the tires of their cars. This would be a shame because in it's own way The Aquabats Vs. The Floating Eye Of Death is very original, unique and weird. Christian Jacobs singing style is maturing along with the abilities of the band itself. If you do go pick up this CD I guarantee it to be one of the oddest, funnest CD's you'll have listened to in a long time. It may not be ska but then again I couldn't tell you what kind of music I would classify it as...wacky, strange, odd, crazy, and possibly not of this world.
