This dance-pop/hip-hop masterpiece has been dubbed "party album of the year," and heralded by almost every critic as one of 2001's best albums. By hook or by crook the Avalanches pieced together over 900 samples to achieve this blissful noise (including Madonna). They come from a land down under (Melbourne, Australia) and are fittingly rooted in punk, but you wonÕt find a hint of it here. Instead, they've traded guitars for turntables, complete with the necessary oohs-and-yeahs, whistles, and animal noises to boot.
Right from the get go and title track the music engulfs the listener in its loops and spiraling sounds of delight The happy-trip lasts for over half of the albums entirety before it calculably comes to a dawdling rest. ItÕs playful, soothing, and good-natured. Think Beastie BoyÕs PaulÕs Boutique meets the Basement Jaxx meets the Jackson 5. ItÕs hard to find error in near perfection.
