Beyond good and seductively evil is more like it, this album will rock you straight into submission as The Cult resurrect straight-up teeth-shattering rock n' roll.
Aside from drummer Matt Sorum being an ex-skin beater for Guns n' Roses, I wasn't all that familiar with The Cult. But after one listen to their latest CD I was almost immediately drawn into the fold. Like a desperate battle cry from the long oppressed genre of music known as Rock, The Cult hit with all the scorching fury of Metallica, Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin.
On track 1 titled "War (the process)" They start out soft and intoxicating, and just as I was about to get comfortable, they snapped my head back with what turns out to be one heavy, hard rock masterpiece.
In today's rock economy it's rare that you come across someone who actually sings like a classic frontman, but Ian Astbury lays it out with power and style. He carries the load much the same way as Robert Plant did for Zeppelin. Still, the most addictive part to this record is Billy Duffy's infectious guitar playing, set to the backdrop of, Matt Sorum's Bonhamesque drums. There's no logical reason why today's new crop of metal hardcore fans shouldn't eat this one up, so join the cult and raise your fists to rock!
