God bless the garage rock revival, I thought I was going to be stuck in nu-metal and bubble gum pop hell forever. The Datsuns are an up-and-coming outfit from New Zealand, and all members have the last name of Datsun. Remind you of any other band? They don't really sound like the Ramones, but more like really good glam rock metal. The opener "Sittin' Pretty" sounds like a great mix of Thin Lizzy and T. Rex. And "MF From Hell" blasts away like the best that Bruce Dickinson and Iron Maiden ever had to offer. (If you think real hard you can figure out what MF stands for.) "Lady" pounds the inner ear like vintage Bon Scott-era AC/DC, and my favorite track "Harmonic Generator" sounds like some of the best sleaze-rock that the Cramps ever unleashed. (Any time you get mentioned in the same sentence with the Cramps, you can rest assured your band kicks ass.) This album doesn't really break any new ground, but who really cares when you're rockin' out like there's no tomorrow--cow bells and all? New Zealand you rock! Good Night!
