I've never even heard of these dudes until recently but looking at the pictures of the band in the liner notes they looked like some sort of Andrew W.K. tribute band. Long hair and hesh flare are at an all time dork-out level here. But enough about fashion let's talk music bitches. First off this is considered "comedy rock." I guess it's funny if you're some sort of kook, or the type of person able to sit endlessly entertained by "knock-knock" jokes. In other words these guys aren't Tenacious D. Overall they take their lo-fi aesthetic far enough to get on your nerves frequently enough to make you wonder if a few of these guys didn't learn to play the bong before they picked up the guitar. Then one night while a wisp of smoke gently wafted from the mouth of the bong, one of the guys discovered his mother's old Knack CD and they all fell about the place like they'd found the Holy Grail itself. Sure we all liked "My Sharona" but from my recollection the rest of the album was nothing to bounce around about. And other than a few decent tracks, Diamond is hardly loaded with gems itself- but it did grow on me.

"The Diamond" comes across with that same kind of weird energy that results from a bad bongwater spill. Freaky vibes from the collision of humor and horror. Like the whole album was kind of a funny accident that you can't help but stare at.. It's feel-good music in a sense. You feel good until you're stuck listening to it for fifty-five minutes, then it's just gomer music. On a side note, a lot of these songs kind of sound like other songs; alot of the grooves and arrangements sound suspiciously familiar. I don't know if they are unoriginal or it's some random coincidence (I was noticing Weezer, Electric Six and The Giraffes). All of which begs the question: "Why am I reviewing this shit?" How should I know - the same reason I masturbate to midget porn - force of habit. "Howling at the Moon" is the best track for my money, and finally caught my attention after a slow start. After that, the rest of the album is all fits and starts of spazzy garage rock. The musicianship is adequate to the type of quirk-rock they make, and the whole crazy Diamond has that cracked-out happy-go-wacky feel similar to Ween - but not as gooned on shrooms.
