A full 24 years since their last studio album, Daltrey and Townsend re-kindle the fire of a band that was one of the true greats of the british invasion of the 1960's. This outing will prove familar in parts (as in a cut like "Fragments") and some of the anthemic spirit is still there (as in the "Mike Post Theme"), but most of the hooks take time to sink in, especially the mini opera the comprises the second half.
One song that really deliveres something original is the track "Man In The Purple Dress", not just an autobiographical bit of Townsend but an inditement against authority sun with true, albeit aged grace from Daltrey. Overall we have an underwhelming production but songwriting just as relevant as the old days of Who. Even if it is marketed to the over 50 demographic.
Another note: Nice extra value in accompanying dvd for regular cd price. This coupled with the reasonable ticket prices on their current tour display a true respect for the working class fans as opposed to the middle aged yuppie fans willing to shell out hundreds in the name of the Stones. Enough of that.
