WOW! This album is absolutely amazing! For those of you who are looking for a CD with lyrics that tug your emotions and is also great to listen to when you're pissed off, Thrice is the band for you. They might be lumped in a category with all those other emo and pop-punk bands, but trust me, you'll never find harder and heavier emo (if you can even call it that) than Thrice's music. On their fourth album, they prove that there's no way to even compare them to other emo bands. You'll be automatically sold when you hear pleading vocals scream "They are sick!, They are poor!" on the album's opener "Cold Cash and Colder Hearts." The song is a heavy rumble with a mellow, melodic breakdown that comes in at just the right moment before it ends with more desperate screaming.

The next track, the wonderfully titled "Under the Killing Moon" shows off more of their heavy assault with the banshee screaming kicking in near the end. One of the best songs, "All That's Left" shows a more melodic punky side, but it starts off with a great quiet drumming style that creeps in and explodes when the verse hits. It also contains a killer ending that drives home it's gut-level lyrics by the end of the song.

"Silhouettes" is a crunching guitar romp with powerfully sung lyrics: "Your eyes followed me here," /they leave me broken and in need of a cure." The real catch is "Stare at the Sun," which is possibly one of the best newer songs I've heard in a long time. The song starts off with eerie guitar tones which are then joined by a complex interplay of a bass and lyrics like "I crack my teeth on pearls" and "why is truth so hard to find in this world?" The chorus is an incendiary blast of synchronized bass-and-guitar, and the lyrics scream "I'm due for a miracle!" The bridge in the middle of the song is an emotionally enraged moment that makes you want to get up and mosh.

Pretty much every song on the album is a great, raging number with alot of screaming included. The only difference is that these guys scream "with purpose - not for the sake of screaming" so their style can't really be compared with hardcore or death-metal screaming. Another great thing about Thrice is that they seem to have formed their own style by fusing a winning blend of styles. In their songs you can hear punk, emo, hardcore, and metal all blended together and sometimes played separately. With all of this in mind, I'd have to say that Thrice will definitely be one of the best bands to come out of this decade. And perhaps eradicate the word Emo, or at the very least give it a good name.
