Remember Tilt? Tilt was a Fat Wreck Chords band that had a girl singer and guys playing the instruments. Tsunami Bomb is like Tilt, with that same punk attitude, who also happen to hail from Northern California. Burb-core is what comes to mind when I think about Tsunami Bomb. Yes, pissed-off mallrats starting a band to express all their pedestrian angst - not unlike Pulley and Millencolin.

The opening track, "Dawn On a Funeral Day" is the best track on The Definitive Act, along with "4 Robots and An Evil Scientist" a minute and a half rant about being a slave to the man or the grind or the system or whatever. All the other songs sound good the first couple of spins, but devolve into filler with familiarity. Listening to Tsunami Bomb is like going to your little sister's talent show. At some times it's a little cheesy and irritating, but at other times you're stoked because, hey, it's your little sister.

Agent M, Tsunami Bomb's sexy frontgirl, is a refreshing voice in a genre rife with angry young men shouting until their tonsils burst. Not to mention the Emo Screamers with their failed relationships and longing for the simpler days of youth. Tsunami brings a likable quality to the table - simple song structure, and hooks that I'm surprised haven't already been used, and I mean that in a good way.

The Definitive Act is a good album for such a young band, but don't be surprised if you tire of it quickly. Give it a few solid listens then put it away for a week. It's like peanut butter, it tastes good once in a while - but you wouldn't want it every day.
