Veruca Salt assaulted the airwaves with their girl-grunge hit "Seether," from their debut album American Thighs. A sophomore slump second release, 8 Arms To Hold You and co-founder Nina Gordon left the saline duo leaving Louise Post to carry on the Veruca banner on her own. With the help of former Filter and NIN producer Brian Liesegang, she's put together a follow up that should keep the Liz Phair, P.J. Harvey-set well salted away.
Alternating between the gossamer-sweet, to the bone-jarring razor-sharp sound that brings to mind Hole and Belly, Post offers up 13 songs that should secure her spot among the vanguard of female rockers.
Though the record won't be released for a few weeks, her first single "Born Entertainer" is already in rotation on television and radio, and unless you're an afficionado of the original line-up, you won't notice anything missing.
For every track-skipper on this release there are two that I really like. Much of the lyrical content, deals with her dysfunctional hollywood relationships, as well as her falling-out with Nina Gordon, but she has a gift for describing the complexities of "love in the fast lane" and a way with a both sweet and scathing melodies.
