Why is it that these guys were written-off as a one hit wonder band? After the enormous success of his first single "One Headlight," the bloom on Jakob Dylan and company's flower seemed to wilt almost overnight. Their fantastic follow-up album was all but ignored and I fear this may be the case with this newest masterpiece Red Letter Days. Jakob will always exist in the shadow of his legendary Dad's preternatural gift for writing lyrics, but then again so will every other songwriter in the world. Jakob, however, can write compelling melodies every bit as well if not better than his father and his abilities as a tunesmith are well evidenced on songs such as "Closer to You" and "If You Never Got Sick."
Just as Julian Lennon, Jakob seems yoked with the kiss-of-death one-hit-wonder moniker--but this son of rock royalty is no novelty act. He's the real deal, and he's just getting started. Red Letter Days resoundingly proves that this Dylan is standing on the shoulder of his own talent, so for God's sake go buy this record.
