At the ripe old age of 73 Wanda Jackson, The Queen of Rockabilly herself, is poised to make a comeback and it doesn't hurt that she's got a White Stripe in her back pocket. Looking to catch lightning in a bottle again as he did with Loretta Lynn on her comeback album Van Lear Rose, Jack White of The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather helms the production chair once again for a long forgotten female legend.

For those that aren't aware, Wanda Jackson was quite the hot ticket back in the late 50's.
Discovered by Country legend Hank Thompson, she was first featured as an opening act and even briefly dated the King, Elvis Presley. In 1960 she had two gigantic hits with her songs "Fujiyama Mama" and "Let's Have a Party" and was a big player in the Las Vegas act scene all the way up to the mid 70's. She's recorded sparsely here and there since then and has lent her vocals to a duet or two, but for decades now Wanda Jackson has stayed out of the limelight while being revered by artists the world over. Leave it to Jack White to get her to come back to the forefront. The Party Ain't Over is Jackson's
playfully titled comeback and along with White's wife Karen Elson and My Morning Jacket's Carl Broemel, White and Jackson are making sure we're gonna have a party.

If only that party were as good as it sounded on paper. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that
Jackson and White at least gave this a shot, but Van Lear Rose part two for White this ain't. There are afew great shining moments such as the rollicking opener "Shakin' All Over" and the inspired cover of Bob Dylan's "Thunder on the Mountain," but more often than not Jackson sounds unsure or uninspired with what's she's singing and this is some of the worst production choices that White has ever made. A 73 year old woman singing the Country standard "Busted?" Really? When you hear Jackson sing about her baby being sick and asking her brother for a loan you just can't buy it. And bless her for trying, but
Jackson's cover of Amy Winehouse's "You Know That I'm No Good" is a mess as is White's production on it which is all over the map and doesn't work a lick. The Party Ain't Over is fun in parts and is worth listening to once or twice, but once the newness of it wears off, there unfortunately isn't much to keep coming back to. This is definitely one of the more disappointing new releases in recent memory.
