……..zzzzzzzzzzz…… nnnggg, wha? Huh? Oh! Sorry folks I dozed off there while I was listening to this new band We Are Scientists first single and first track off their debut album With Love and Squalor. It's called "Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt" and you needn't bother yourself with it, unless you're having insomnia issues. We Are Scientists hail from Brooklyn, and are the umpteenth million band in the last three years (just from New York) to jump on the Dance-Punk bandwagon. That's good I guess if you love Dance-Punk (which I do) but frankly it needs to go away for a while, I'm just plain sick and tired of it.

Not to say I didn't give With Love and Squalor a chance, just look at the album cover and those cute kittens! Man I'm a sucker for those loveable little bastards. That got me pumped up for it right there. Unfortunately, that cover photo is more interesting than the whole of this album. Musically it's fine I guess (the mundane lyrics are another matter), but it's nothing we haven't heard already and better before. "Textbook" smacks of textbook ripping off of The Cure, "Worth the Wait" is something you've already heard Hot Hot Heat do much much better, and the rest of the album is nothing more than a third generation Franz Ferdinand/Bloc Party clone.

That's really about all I can think of to say about these guys; you probably won't ever hear hide nor hair from them once this Dance-Punk craze goes away. It's a shame they couldn't fuse some of the humor of their website into this album. If you're ever bored and need a laugh (especially if you don't like actor Josh Lucas), I highly recommend checking it out. (wearescientists.com) It's far more entertaining and memorable than this album is going be.
