Well, the boys from Athens have released another record. Doesn't this make about three albums in under four years? Who's counting? The bottom line is Widespread probably should have taken a little more time making this album. Not that it's all bad--the first three tracks on this album are exceptional. "Surprise Valley," and "Climb To Safety" are all reminiscent of serious 70's southern-fried rock--yet Widespread works their loose rhythmic magic and reminds you that we're definitely in the 90s.
The beginning of this album rocks, but the rest of this album rolls right down a long hill and off a cliff. Dreary, tired, stagnant rock plagues the rest of this release. An occasional upbeat guitar riff will wake you up, but the misplaced record-scratches and sinister organs will make you lapse back into your boring-music induced coma. If you are a true Widespread fan, the first three songs should satisfy your Panic fix. But, be forewarned, to ingest the rest of this album you're going to need a heaping spoonful of sugar to get this Medicine down.
