Sure, American Idol reject William Hung is a horrible singer, but we all know that there's something about him that's undeniably entertaining. After all, why would Koch Records give him a $25,000 recording contract if they didn't think people would actually by the CD? Well, I got this CD as a gag gift and it's as wonderfully awful as you might imagine. His upbeat songs are at least fun to dance to for the first time around, but the slow songs bring the procedings to a gratingly monumental halt. The CD starts off with a ten second thank-you titled "Words of Gratitude" which is pretty embarrassing, but it shows that he's thankful to be where he's at. He then goes into Ricky Martin's "She Bangs" which consists of karaoke-style background music and an embarrassing ending that will make you crack up every time. His cover of Enrique Eglesias' "Bailamos" is fun throughout most the song, but when he starts reaching the high notes near the end it gets pretty sad and amusing at the same time because the man takes himself so seriously.

There's another inspirational thought where he says he sings with "passion" which is followed by "I Believe I Can Fly" which gets pretty sad at the end when he starts doing the "Flyieyeiyieyeieyieyieyieyiey" thing that R. Kelly does at the end of the original. "Hotel California" is painfully embarrassing with it's echoed vocals that make his singing sound much, much worse. The producers really tried to make him sound like an idiot on this one. He butchers Elton John's "Can You Feel The Love Tonight," "Circle of Life," and "Rocket Man" (which features more high-pitched falsetto vocals that will makes nails on a blackboard sound like Nat King Cole). He does a really crappy job on Phil Collins' "Two Worlds" and on a techno song called "Free" which makes you wonder if he really thinks people are laughing with him and not at him. He also does "Y.M.C.A." (with a super-hot girl group called the Gonnabees) and Ricky Martin's "Shake Your Bon-Bon" which is another sad attempt, but it's fun to dance to. There's also two other inspirational thoughts on perseverance and being yourself which make you feel even more sorry for the guy (if indeed such a thing is possible). I guess you could buy this CD if you're looking a great white-elephant gift for someone, or if you really want to have a good laugh for yourself. However, even if we are laughing at him, he's laughing all the way to the bank. Plus, his fifteen minutes of fame aren't running away anytime soon. He's got another CD coming out in September titled "True Idol." America baby -you gotta love it.
